Why Are My Lab Tests “Normal” and I STILL Feel Terrible?
I hear this question frequently in my practice. Patients come in and tell me they feel terrible, however, all their lab tests are “normal.” They have seen several doctors, and finally were given anti-depressants to help their “mental” issues, since nothing was physically wrong with them. Does that sound familiar to you? If so, it may be time to consider a good functional medicine healthcare professional.
To alleviate your fears . . . No, you won’t find a throw-back to the 70’s tie-dyed outfitted barefoot hippie types. These are real healthcare professionals who will take their time to get to the cause of your symptoms, rather than just masking or treating symptoms that seem to get worse instead of better.
They will treat you as a whole person, rather than separate parts that require a different specialist for each area of complaint. They will investigate and put all the pieces together with a “big” picture view with emphasis on an integrated individualized plan to correct the causes of your symptoms.
You will be an integral part of your care. Your input is necessary for the best results and adherence to programs presented. This will be a joint effort and may require lifestyle changes, but if it restores your health, these are minor details. Functional Medicine is a science whose time has come!
We will discuss what lab reports really say and why all lab “results” are not created equal in Part 2 of ‘Why Are My Lab Tests “Normal” and I Still Feel Terrible.’
